Never cared much for brussels sprouts as a kid, which puts me in good company with most kids in the US, probably in the world. As an adult, however, I have embraced them as a nutritious delicacy.
It’s hard for us to believe, but we’re about to finish the classes that form the heart of our Master Gardener training. We’re not ready for them to end. Not ready at all!
The first sign was holes in the hay we keep between rows on Veg Hill. Dozens of them, about 3 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter, stopping at the cardboard below the hay.
We’ve been watching through the row cover, but now the insects are less of a problem, so we pulled the row cover on Sunday. Our fall veg looks great!
Friday night the forecast called for a possible frost, so we decided to pull the sweet potatoes. We ended up with much more than we did last year, but we’re still disappointed.
All it took was one night of 31 degree temperatures to lay waste to most of our summer veg.
