Podcast #99 – Holidays on the Farm

We just finished a delightful Labor Day weekend with three separate sets of visitors, and it’s made us reflect on how holidays have a different feel to them now that we live on the farm.

We can say there’s no such thing as a holiday, or that every day is a holiday. Mainly, though, holidays are a great time for friends and family to come and visit us. We talk today about the concept of holidays as “holy days,” and we even get into the way we use the Sabbath day here on the farm. These concepts matter to us now as farmers, but increasingly, they will matter to more and more of us; as our fossil fuel based industrial economy grinds down, fewer of us will have a “job” where we travel to a workplace and get a paycheck.
