It will be time soon enough (in February) to prune our fruit trees. Right now we’re focused on planting. The big initiative is blueberries; we’ll be adding 24 blueberries this year. Right now they’re sitting in the back of the pickup along with 6 gallons of 50-year-old sawdust to keep the soil acidic. We’ll also be adding a flat of strawberries (18 plants). We’ll also be trying olives for the first time this year, as well as backfilling with pomegranates, figs, peaches, a muscadine, and a persimmon.
Here’s the post from earlier today about how feasible it is to grow olives in the deep south.
