We in the South are still reeling from a winter storm of historic proportions. The good news is that roads, businesses, and schools here in central Alabama are beginning to recover from the storm today. For us here in central Alabama, the better news is that we had lots of notice and warnings and time to prepare.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for our city friends in Birmingham, where the forecasts up until an hour before the storm set in called merely for “a dusting” of snow. What arrived instead was first a layer of freezing rain and sleet and then 3-4 inches of snow on top. In today’s program we compare and contrast the response of the two areas and what the difference has meant to members of the communities involved.
