The days are getting shorter now, but they’re plenty long, and the continuing pattern of afternoon showers is keeping everything damp.
So our daily power consumption is way up as we use the AC in the lodge, the dehumidifiers in our closets, and even on occasion (to our chagrin) the electric clothes dryer. The grass loves this kind of weather, so mowing is a frequent chore. On the positive side, we managed to solarize two beds in a week, which is a record for us. And on Monday we easily caught four good-sized catfish from the pond.

When showers threaten but we still have damp clothes, we’ve learned we can help them to dry by hanging them in the shower

Here are beds 15-16 with their plastic solarizing shrouds. We could pull the plastic any time now, but we must be ready to pull the weeds as soon as the plastic is gone.
