Podcast #93 – Why We Farm

There’s a great series running on Gene Logsdon’s site – The Contrary Farmer right now. It’s a series of guest essays entitled “Why I Farm.” In line with that, we devote this week’s podcast to Amanda’s and my answer to that question. And specifically, why we choose to be organic, subsistence farmers rather than commercial farmers.

And our reasons are different. This is our chance for each of us to lay out our personal motivation for organic subsistence farming and to talk about how our different motivations converge in a shared philosophy and a shared purpose.

Listen – 21:58

Here’s the tacky piece I mentioned that attempted to drive a wedge between those who must sell their farm’s produce and those who farm for subsistence. We make it clear in the podcast how we react to that!
