We didn’t want to miss our grandson’s baptism, so we spent a week in California. A week is a long time to be gone from a subsistence organic farm, so now we have our work cut out for us.
While we were gone:
- We got basically no rain, so Amanda’s potted plants suffered something of a holocaust
- Even without rain, the residual moisture from our wet summer kept the grass growing everywhere.
- The muscadines ripened nicely, so we found them peaking now.
- Predictably, the okra – which above all needs to be well-picked – frolicked out of control
