Amanda started hauling in baskets full of food from Veg Hill within weeks after we started our first garden, but we’ve had to be more patient with the fruit trees that are my domain.
Our friend Jean needed raised beds, so Amanda volunteered to build them if Jean would agree to be our featured “talent.”

We’re entering into our “second summer” here in central Alabama, the portion of the summer during which nearly everything tends to slow down on Veg Hill – everything, that is, except the okra. Thank God for okra: it loves this heat the way the rest of us love ice cream.
